Reading Development |
The Reading Development program helps to develop and improve upon attention, concentration, short term memory, literal understanding and the rate at which students can read comfortably with excellent comprehension. Essential vocabulary, analytical reading and comprehension didactics are all incorporated into this program to amass the user's fundamental reading process, visual, perceptual and cognitive skills, which will then increase over time. All of these skills are essential in order for one to become fluent in silent reading and to comprehend what has been read.
Beginner readers can work on visual skill readiness, phonemic awareness, rapid decoding of words, word recognition and vocabulary competence. All readers will work on attention/concentration, fluent silent reading, perceptual accuracy, visual memory, contextual analysis and relative comprehension. Those readers that are established and a little more advanced will also work on vocabulary enhancement, analytical reading skills, study skill competence and accelerated comprehension. Studies have shown that students who read faster also have superior comprehension. A Visagraph is utilized to objectively measure, record and evaluate the individual's reading efficiency (fluency) and effectiveness. Each individual's reading performance is measured with the Visagraph and then compared to others in the same peer group, based on the system's National Grade Level Normative Data and Goals. This visual analysis of the person's eye movements during silent reading help to provide unique insights into the physical, perceptual and cognitive skills that determine the ease and comfort with which one reads.
